Obituary
A Life of Love and Service to Others
Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you. (Jeremiah 1:5)
On March 24, 1964, Paulette Elaine Baker (Ah’biyah Bayt Israel) entered this life as the fourth child of six children born to Willie and Annie McCrary in Huntsville, Alabama.
Paulette’s early years were spent with her devoted parents and siblings in Huntsville, Alabama. She graduated from JO Johnson High School in 1982. She later attended JF Drake State Community and Technical College where she obtained her Licensed Practical Nursing Degree. Her life’s ministry was to take care of her patients which many times included her family and friends. She was a very skilled and devoted nurse and caretaker for over 30 years. When her mother became ill, Paulette selflessly retired from nursing and taking care of others to become a fulltime loving and nurturing caregiver to her mother.
Paulette found a new passion for taking care of people by nourishing their bodies. As a self-taught Raw Chef, she prepared tasty wholesome and healthy meals. She enjoyed sharing this innovative dietary lifestyle on how to eat healthy with her family, local churches and community. People from miles around came to buy and taste her delicious raw food creations from the Green Market in Huntsville, Alabama.
He who finds a wife finds a good thing, and obtains favor from the Lord (Prov 18:22)
To Ah’biyah (Paulette), no experience compared with that of being a wife and mother. In the summer of 1975, at the age of 12, Paulette met her soulmate Jeffery Earl Baker (Ya’Aziel), a scrappy kid from Chicago. Jeff and Paulette’s romance progressed over long talks on her parent’s front porch, walks “around the corner” and then Jeff finally made it in to sit on the couch.
Jeff and Paulette were married on May 6th, 1983. With her “Groom” at her side; with him as her rock and support for 45 years together (38 years in marriage), their union was the beginning of a life’s journey of unconditional love. They were a testament as to why Yah created marriage for the good of mankind. Ya’Aziel, remembers his loving wife, friend and companion as a “servant” to others. He also says that not only “would she take care of her patients, but she would also feed them too”.
Their happy union was blessed with two beautiful children: Jeffery Dearco Baker (YermiYah Bayt Isreal) and Gabrielle Marie Baker (Atarah Bayt Israel). Yermi and Atarah could call on their mother anytime seeking support and wise counsel because they knew their mother would tell them “like it is”. She held nothing back because she loved them with an everlasting love as only a mother could. Life became complete when Ah’biyah became a grandmother to 5 (soon to be 6) grandchildren. Her grandchildren who affectionately call her “Granny” brought new joy and purpose into her life.
Her daughter, Gabby, remembers her as a “strong woman, a fighter who fought through anything whether it be sickness or conflict.” Always the rock and cornerstone of the family, Ah’biyah gave her real-life counsel on issues like relationships, jobs, and was a strong female role model to not only her family, but to whomever she met. Gabby went on to say that “she always had an answer, whether I agreed with it or not”.
For thou art an holy people unto the Lord thy God, and the Lord hath chosen thee to be a peculiar people unto Himself, above all the nations that are upon the earth. Deuteronomy 14:2
During a season of devout prayer, biblical and historical studies; Jeff and Paulette were led to the Hebrew Israelite faith. During this spiritual and cultural transformation, they renewed and dedicated their lives to Yahweh and changed their names to “Yah’Aziel Bayn Israel” and “Ah’biyah Bayt Israel” to reflect their new way of life. This spiritual journey led them to establish the Hebrew Israelite tabernacle “Beit Miqra Yahwah” (House of the Called-Out Ones) in Huntsville, Alabama.
Ah’biyah will be remembered by friends and family for her brutal but transparent honesty. She was a dynamic family leader who always demanded the best of herself and others. She was always fully present, humble, introspective, a thoughtful spiritual advisor, confidant and friend.
Ah’biyah is predeceased by her mother, Annie T. McCrary, brother, Larry L. Cole, and brother-in-law, Craig C. Wilson.
Ah’biyah is survived by her devoted and loving husband of thirty-eight years, Yah’Aziel Bayn Israel.
She is survived and lovingly missed by her two children: her loving son Yermiyahu Bayn Israel, and devoted daughter Atarah Bayt Israel.
Her five beloved grandchildren: Malika Baker, T’zadahk Baker, Zachariah Baker, Natalia Baker, and Alexandria Baker.
She is also survived by her father Willie T. McCrary (Ann) of Huntsville, AL; Brothers, Eric E. McCrary (Donna) of Huntsville, AL, and Niron W. McCrary (Annette) of Jacksonville, FL; Sisters, Derita D. Vasser (Otis) of Birmingham, AL, and Rhonda L. Wilson of Brooklyn, NY.

Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works and glorify your Father who is in heaven. (Matthew 5:16)
The profound lesson that Ah’biyah leaves with us, is her example of strength and love of family. In spite of recent challenges she experienced especially towards the end of her life when she could not communicate in the way she wanted, her light still shone through.
Larger than the sorrow we all feel is the light of her life’s legacy. The light represented by each person who was touched by her is living, breathing proof that this world was made better because of her life. Keep walking in her loving Spirit and Light.
