Obituary for Offie "Button" Lockhart

Mr. Offie Lynn Lockhart was born on April 8, 1957, to the late Mr. John
Wesley Lockhart and Ms. America Moore Lockhart in Harvest, Alabama, in the
home of his maternal grandparents, the late Mr. Offie and Mrs. Luellen Peason-
Moore Senior. While there spending time with his adoring “Big Momma,” he
loved playing with the buttons on her clothes and was nicknamed “Button” for his
love of the round object held on with thread.

He matriculated through the Madison County School System where he
attended Toney Jr. High, Harvest Elementary and Sparkman High School from
which he graduated with the class of 1975.
He was an avid Auburn Football Fan, “War Eagle!” He also loved pro
football, other sports and people, especially his relatives. As he matured, his self-
given names included “O,” “Big O,” and his personal favorite, “The Marvelous Big
O.”

He professed hope in Christ and was baptized into the family of faith as a
teenager under the Pastorship of the late Reverend Jimmy Lee McComb at the
Beaver Dam Primitive Baptist Church in Toney, Alabama. There he attended
Sunday School, morning services, revivals and participated in recitations and plays
for various Church Occasions. His sense of humor that was often used to keep
things ‘light’ in any situation was his via the nature and nurture of both parents
especially his father “John Wes.”

Later in life, he and his mother would discuss the Daily Devotions provided
in the “Our Daily Bread” publications every day. He loved reading his Bible. After
the Covid Pandemic, Sundays began with attending the Madkins Chapel CPA
Church Teleworship Services. He so enjoyed the Gospel Messages served to us all
by “Pastor Endia” as he fondly called her.
Others preceding him in death are his brother, Baby Timothy Lockhart;
Paternal Grandmother and Step Grandfather Howard and Memmery Lockhart
Curry; aunts Frankie Lee Moore Curry, Minnie B. Garner Pope; Uncles Mr. Robert
Moore, Mr. Alex Moore, Mr. Joe A. Moore, Mr. Offie Moore Junior, and Mr. John
W. Moore Senior.

He leaves to cherish his memories a loving and devoted Mother, America
Moore-Lockhart, siblings Frederick and Karen Lockhart both of Harvest, AL; Aunts
Mattie P. Moore-Evans of Detroit, MI, Mary L. Moore-Evans, Elizabeth Moore and
Leona Moore-Surles, all of Harvest, AL and Carleen Moore-Brooks of Huntsville,
AL; one uncle Bobby J (Verna) Curry of Huntsville, AL; two cherished and devoted
friends, Ms. Verdell Hardy, Summit Neighbor, and Robert Jones both of Huntsville,
AL and a host of cousins and friends.

support themselves among you, help them as you would a foreigner and
stranger, so they can continue to live among you.”
