Barbara Ann Washington, 57, departed this life on Thursday, February 11, 2021.
Originally from Syracuse, New York, Barbara was born on September 1, 1963, to Samuel and Fannie Mae Coleman. She graduated from Henninger High School in 1981. Upon graduation, she enlisted in the U.S. Army as a 71L, Administrative Specialist. While stationed at U.S. Army Garrison Heidelberg in Germany, she met Douglas F. Washington who would become her devoted and loving husband and best friend of 32 years.
After nearly eight years of service, Barbara retired from the Army as a Specialist and continued to travel the world as Douglas continued his military career. But never one to sit at home, she often balanced raising her family, volunteering, and working part-time. In 2019, she completed her associate degree in healthcare administration from Ashworth College.
Those close to Barbara knew she had a keen sense of fashion, an eye for home décor and interior design, and a compassionate heart that always provided sage guidance and wisdom. When not taking classes towards her BA degree, Barbara could often be found humming songs around the house while sweeping, taking road trips with her husband, or observing the mountains while sitting on her porch with a cup of coffee.
A warm and adoring wife, mother, Memaw, daughter, sister, and friend, Barbara was predeceased by her mother, Fannie Mae Coleman, and her sister, Gloria Coleman-Henderson. She leaves behind her devoted husband of 32 years, Douglas F. Washington; two daughters, Tiffany Washington and Nikea Clayton (Terry Slade); four grandchildren, Harlem, Jada, Camron, and Cali; father, Samuel Coleman; two sisters, Dorothy Thompson and Ella Darby (Gary); four brothers, Samuel Coleman Jr. (Pomui), Willie Coleman, William Coleman (Serena), Anthony Coleman (Makelia); mother-in-law, Roberta Baugh; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, brothers- and sisters-in-laws.
